UC Davis Arboretum Engagement - A+K

Couple stands on a bridge at the UC Davis arboretum during their engagement session photos

I had the loveliest time with Alysson and Kellen at the redwood grove in the UC Davis Arboretum. It called for possible rain and overcast skies this day, but it ended up being so nice and I absolutely love the images we made together. It is never fun waiting to see if you are going to have to postpone your engagement session, but I am so glad the A+K trusted me and it all worked out beautifully.

Like most couples, A+K were a little nervous to start but quickly fell into step with one another and became comfortable in front of the camera. Most couples don’t believe me but there really is nothing you need to do to prepare for your session as far as posing or being in front of the camera. I always say just come prepare to love soon each other and and have fun and I will take care of the rest.

I loved A+K’s outfit choices for their session. They were coordinating, rather than matching, had texture and A’s dress had beautiful movement. They were both clearly comfortable and able to move which is so important to natural photos. My biggest suggestions are always to pick something you have worn and love. Something that makes you feel confident and truly yourself. Adding texture to your outfits through different materials is another way to add visual interest and coordinate with one another. Most of all think of the color for where you will be going and select something that will compliment your surroundings. Neutrals are a favorite simply because they allow you and your surroundings to be the star of the show. Bright colors are fun and can really convert your personality, but sometimes they steal the show so tread carefully.

I loved how natural and in sync A+K were with each other. It never gets old watching two people in love celebrate their upcoming wedding in this way. It is a lovely opportunity to take a moment and reflect on how far you’ve come and where you are going. Engagements are short compared to a lifetime of marriage, so celebrate them as much and as often as possible. These two will be married at the Mountain Terrace in Woodside, CA later this month and I know it is going to be an absolutely amazing day.
